The SOMA ferry, operated by the Gambia Ferry Services, was constructed in the Ukraine in 2004. After more than 10 years of operation at the Farafenni crossing, the SOMA was up to go for a major rehabilitation. A co-operation between the Engineering department of Gambia Port Authority/GFS, ProjectWise and Schottel has resulted in a completely re-designed propulsion system. From the existing, 4x propeller shaft configuration, the ferry will now use 2x Schottel Navigator with SRP 200 Azimuth Trusters.

Brand new MAN 2866 engines, that were purchased earlier by the client to replace the main engines in the original configuration, were used in the Schottel Navigator.
